Welcome
"Amberocalypse", originally conceived as a playful twist on my name, evolved into a reflection on the concept of the apocalypse. Raised in a fundamental Baptist environment, the looming specter of the Rapture and the impending end times was a constant presence in my formative years. As a rebellious teenager, I rejected these beliefs, and Amberocalypse came to symbolize a different perspective- an outlook that views endings as merely transitions. I firmly believe that nothing truly ceases to exist; it merely undergoes transformation, shifts its energy, or assumes a new form.
My journey into creating mosaics was born out of disappointment with the lack of recognition afforded to female artists in the music world. Even during my high school years, it frustrated me that the vast majority of the artists we studied were men. The guitar magazines I perused as a teenager seldom featured female players, and when they did, they were often portrayed in a hyper-sexualized manner, pushed to the sidelines. Yet in creating the mosaics, another vital aspect of my work emerged: a strong desire to use repurposed materials and, in turn, give back to our Mother Earth. Though I believe climate change is a real threat to our existence, I also believe that we have the power to save our planet. Yet, it is going to take all of us to reflect and find ways to be better stewards of our home. Whether it's repurposing old clothing, jewelry, thrifted yarn, fake flowers, or even discarded plastic room keys, I find beauty and purpose in the discarded and I feel a deep commitment to repurposing materials, as a way to give back to our planet. The thrill of discovering new purposes for old items and breathing new life into them is my passion.
My overarching goal is to infuse the world with beauty. A quote that resonates deeply with me is by Andrea Gibson: “We have to create. It is the only thing louder than destruction.” In a world rife with destruction and despair, these words serve as a constant reminder of why I am driven to create. Art is my tool, my means of combating the relentless tide of destruction, in order to leave behind a legacy of beauty and transformation.
